Wow, for some reason I am watching the Video Music Awards, and believe me when I say it so far has not been pretty. What on earth is Miley Cyrus thinking? Worse yet what are her “people” thinking? Her immature stabs at sexuality are harder to watch than Brittany Spears breakdown. Then, of course, there is Kanye, for whom there are no words.
I love music and am waiting to see Justin Timberlake, but at this point I’m a little scared.
Good news! No need to have worried because he was fantastic, and classy besides. It would be easy to take the award he was given and simply say thank you, but he had the decency to acknowledge that he wasn’t always a solo artist. He continues to impress me with his graciousness. I don’t always love every choice he makes, but at least he comes off as talented, intelligent and overall a good guy.
It was interesting to watch the audience as he performed. For the most part everyone was on their feet, but there were certain artists that looked as though they were so consumed by their own images that they couldn’t relax and just be in the moment. I know it’s popular to complain about Taylor Swift but I give her credit for knowing how to have a good time. She was clearly having fun.
Rumor has it that Katy Perry’s performance is worth waiting for, so I continue to suffer through unfunny banter and at least a zillion commercials, hoping she will perform soon. I assumed this show would end at eleven, but no such luck. Finally around-eleven twenty she performs, and although no Justin Timberlake, I am willing to concede that she was good and predict we will all be singing her new single within a few weeks.
