I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the thing I like most about living in Los Angeles is being surrounded by so many creative people. A few weeks ago this showed up in my email:
Vicki Abelson’s InterNetworking A Writer’s Workshop ~Manifest Your Dreams~
Okay, so it didn’t look like that because Vicki is one of those creative people I mentioned above, and she is capable of putting together a much more appealing presentation. Her email looked like an eye-catching flyer in full color that was easy to read, as well as entertaining. Vicki is nothing if not entertaining. You may recall that she is the one who came up with Women Who Write, the group that hosted Garry Marshall, an afternoon that I thoroughly enjoyed and which you can read about here:
But back to this workshop that Vicki offered. The idea was to bring together a group of writers and to discuss ways to promote our work. We were told to bring 5 minutes of writing to share, and then we would brainstorm what might work best for each individual.
Today was the day, and I wasn’t sure what I would walk into. In her email, Vicki had said space was limited and she’d set aside two hours, but would there be three people or twenty? There were six of us plus Vicki, and each of the women were fantastic. Interestingly enough, every one of us writes in a different genre, and yet the writing as well as the women were consistently engaging. We talked so much that we ran over time and not all of us had a chance to read, but there was a wealth of information shared, and I left with a clearer idea of where to focus my attention.
If you are in the Los Angeles area and need an extra kick in the behind, Vicki not only runs Women Who Write, and the occasional workshop, but she will also work with you one on one. You can find her here: vickiabelson.com or here, facebook.com/vickiabelson &
