Yesterday, I barely accomplished anything in my writing career, at least that I know of. The reality is that someone influential could be reading my book right now. Yesterday, however, was spent sorting through 100 of nearly a thousand files of photos, pulling images to send to stock agencies and to sell as fine art. You see, the bread and butter of my existence is paid for by working with my sister in her photography business. A business that is changing almost as quickly as the publishing industry.
There was a time when people ordered pictures not just for themselves but for everyone in their families. Now, you are lucky if they buy for themselves because the reality is that they take pictures every five minutes with their phones. Here is where they are missing out. No one bothers to print anything and if they tried to, much of the time the quality would be lousy. Also, you can’t capture a family portrait or a special occasion on a phone alone. Times are changing though, and because of that we need to refocus our business and address those changes.
So, as I said, I was going through tons of pictures yesterday and all I could think is that I am so lucky! I have been blessed with a sister who not only has captured nearly every second of my children’s lives, but her art inspires me on a daily basis.
